An exciting new era of MotoGP welcomes Honda’s latest
Grand Prix machine, the RC212V. |

Just as the world waited in excited anticipation in the 1960s, so they did in 2006 as Honda eventually confirmed a new V-4, 800cc MotoGP machine to challenge for the 2007 title and adhere to the engine capacity reduction after five years of 990cc competition.
Honda continues its ambition to educate its young engineers, extend its passion for engineering excellence and strive for further success in the red-hot arena of MotoGP.
With the RC212V arrives a challenging new era, one which will witness the evolution of a new prototype over the immediate future, all aimed at challenging the record-breaking statistics of its predecessor, the RC211V.
The RC212V’s arrival also heralds a new age of technological advancements and new sporting regulations. From 2007 MotoGP teams must select their tyres on Thursday evening, prior to the opening practice. They are allowed a total of 31 tyres per rider for the weekend, 14 fronts and 17 rears.
The maximum fuel capacity for a MotoGP machine has been reduced from 22 litres to 21, a change destined to affect the race strategies of teams contemplating more high-revving motors.
Additionally, Michelin has re-introduced 16-inch front tyres - 25 years after the same size tyre was contributing to 500cc title-winning campaigns. At Honda there are new combinations too with the Gresini squad of Marco Melandri and Toni Elias now using Bridgestone tyres - another technical factor set to come into play throughout the course of the 18-race championship.
A new era has dawned and with it the technical options continue to increase, an area which not only keeps Honda motivated but also guarantees that the technology which appears in the company’s race machines of today appears in its street bikes of tomorrow. |
