Honda Motor Europe (North) in Germany is focussing on its national championship in 2007.
Especially the “Internationale Deutsche Motorradmeisterschaft” IDM one of the most professional championships in Europe is the centre of activity for Honda in Germany.
Meanwhile riders out of 14 different European countries participate and use the championship as a stepping stone towards the world championship.
There are three categories Honda is investing and taking care of riders and machinery : 125cc, the youngster category, where youngsters out of the several cup-series enter to establish and to grow to a GP career. Seven riders out of the actual GP competition started in IDM. Even the world champion of 2005 Tom Luthi is a former IDM pilot out of the 2003 season.
This year Honda in Germany will support the 2006 Junior Cup vice champion, Marcel Schroetter, who is very keen on following his idol Dani Pedrosa into the world championship.
The Supersport category of IDM enjoys high popularity. One reason is the close-to-production homologation for this class in Germany. The team being supported by Honda Motor Europe (North) is using new CBR600RR and the team is 2006 vice champion Rigo Richter and the 17-year-old Sascha Hommel who started his career in 125 IDM. Rigo will advise Sascha during his entry in the fourstroke-category. The first test sessions in Spain were already very promising. Meanwhile last years Supersports Champion on Honda, Arne Tode, is now searching for new challenges in the FIM-European Stockstockc Championship with the support of Honda Motor Europe (North). His goal is to lay a significant headstone towards a Superbike World Championship title in the future.
IDM Superbike is the highlight of the German championship. Honda Motor Europe (North) supports two teams in this class: Holzhauer Racing Promotion (HRP) is owned by Jens Holzhauer, a successful Honda Motorcycle Dealer. He contracted Austrian rider Martin Bauer who experienced several highlights during last season when he jumped onto the podium three times in the last four races.
Alphatechnik is the second Superbike-Team supported by Honda Motor Europe (North). Together with HRP they are longing to regain the manufacturers championship in the SBK-category for Honda as they already did in 2004. In 2007 they will start with former Supersport Champion Kai Borre Andersen and Werner Daemen on CBR1000RRs. |
